Today's playlist memories

Here's a couple of songs I had in my playlist today, first song is from german band Die goldenen Zitronen is called the bird and features Hanayo's lovely voice. Monyaka - Go deh yaka is a disco reggae stomper from the early 80s, really love this song especially when the sun is shining. Last song is an upbeat song from the Police called Canary in a coalmine taken from the great Zenyatta Mondatta album.

Low Frequency Oscillation

I've been listening a lot to oldskool rave music the last couple of weeks and here's a track I really love, it's called "we are back" by heavy techno pioneers LFO. They were one of the first duos to create music with as primary instruments heavily sub-bass and similar pure tones. In this song you here a Commodore Amiga voice proclaimed the phrase, "There are many imitators, but we are the true creators. We're back ..... Low Frequency Oscillation".

Later they did some remixing work for Radiohead, Bjork, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, !!! etc.

LFO - We are Back
Bjork - Hyperballad (LFO disco sync mix)
!!!- Me and Giuliani Down by the Schoolyard (LFO Remix)
Afrika Bambaataa - Planet Rock (House Mix II by LFO)
Radiohead - Planet Telex (LFO DJ Mix)
Miss Kittin - Happy Violentine (Lfo Mix)

Happy Birthday

Shitdisco is a band from the Scottish art-pop-rock underground. They consist of two basses, one guitar, a keyboard and drums. I Saw them live a couple of months ago and it was a great show, you can watch that show here. They released a 12'' called Disco Blood on fiercepanda last year that also include ‘I Know Kung Fu’ and a Clor remix of Disco Blood. I know Kung Fu sounds a a bit like my favorite Birthday Party song "zoo music girl". The Birthday Party were one of the darkest Post Punk bands of the early 80's and fronted by vocalist Nick Cave.

Linus loves Klein & MBO

Was listening to the new Linus Loves album today and I think it's great! After doing some remixes for Mattafix, Mylo, Plantlife etc they now have their own material. Guess they have been copying and pasting a lot of eigthies stuff and turned them into great new songs. This one reminds me of Dirty Talk by Klein & MBO, just a little :-)

Linus Loves - Stage Invader is out now on Breastfed Records

Klein & MBO - Dirty Talk

who said you can't mix vinegar with jam?

New post and some fine tunes, first a great band from New York called Nous non Plus, I really like their French new wave electro bubblegum style, it sounds a little bit like Vive la Fete or Stereo Total. Next song is Major Tom from Belgian hero Plastic Bertrand most famous for his song “Ça plane pour moi.” Major Tom is a great French cover version of the Peter Schilling song. The song was originally recorded in German, the international hit version was sung in English. Talking about cover versions here’s a cover of Gary Numans “Are friends electric.” This version is done by Moloko and appeared on the Gary Numan tribute album Random. Next song is a remix of Disco Dancer by Devo one of the most innovative new wave bands in the early eighties. This version sounds most like the great video in which the band marches around New York and Los Angeles with a disco ball. Talking about great bands from the eighties here’s a Dead or Alive song “Isn’t it a pity.” A song on which Pete Burns sings about the fact that his visual side sometimes hindered the general public from fully embracing his talent. Listen to the Lyrics "I'm a kind of hybrid of a cartoon and a feature. Some have thought me lovely, others saw an ugly creature... I have found my image has obscured all that I am. But who said you can't mix vinegar with jam?"
